And it's absolutely not like creeps in starcraft, you don't set it and forget it, at least initially, you need to program your bot, see if it works, keep an eye on it, sometimes you will manually drive your bot, especially when you are new
avatar
Unlike in most RTS games in Colobot you work on single resources, derricks mine one at the time, robots can carry one at the time, etc
avatar
@tomangelo I feel like I have a point but keep failing to get it across
avatar
@Simbax it's almost like it was designed that way, or something

Looks like we won't reach an agreement here, game is completely different for us, we look at things in completely different way. I don't find anything magically in ruined wrecks and ruins that was just probably malfunctioning or was damaged by Ants, nothing magical in building animation, it was just simplest thing to do scaling and rotating things.

Sending creeps in Starcraft == sending bots in Colobot. Not to mention that without CBOT they don't do anything without our control, we can't just rightclick on ores to tell them to collect it
avatar
Ha! And what automates the base? Programming! It always comes down to the existance of CBOT one way or another. BTW, in Space Rangers 2 there is an RTS minigame, where you build robots (by choosing modules, similar system should be in Colobot) and can manually control them from 3rd person view (one at a time, so you can send your squad and get control of one of the robots to get an advantage over A.I., or flank them, or whatever). The base management is limited only to turrets though. https://youtu.be/0IFtYAe3GHU?t=3m41s

@michx : In therms of ruins and wrecks ++

I have to said I always liked ruins and residues from old missions in this game. This was always very mysterious and interesting for me, unfortunately not very expanded. I think it has potential to remake this in Gold. Maybe adding some new objects(?) I believe that small upgrade could actually improve overall exploration element in this game a lot. @radioactivity wrote what I would like to wrote in terms of this comparision. Wink
avatar
You don't get to send creeps to gather your resources, you need to manually develop your colony and eventually automate it
avatar
I mean, come on. There is a clear difference between base management in Starcraft and Colobot. Colobot is on much smaller scale, and even then It's closer to Factorio
avatar
Games you mentioned are from bird flight perspective which changes dramatically overall gameplay and they look so different in terms of graphics, it just cannot be compared. These games are just so much on science fiction side. I just cannot take this seriously in terms of space exploration. It's not only about bases.
avatar
Colobot main part is programming, without that it would be just completely unnoticed, not to mention nowadays, when even simple Flash games have much better space base developing options. Gold Edition cannot be modified so much, but Colobot 2 should have much better developed exploration and colonisation theme.
avatar
Developing bases on planets? Like in Starcraft? Or Earth 2150? Technically on every RTS, because even Age of Empires is on planet Earth? Not to mention that it's still very limited and pointless. In other RTS games you need to develop them continuusly, because you would be vanished otherwise. In Colobot you just need one tower, one bot and one PowerStation to be completely safe, you can go afk for 2 hours and nothing will change. This should change when we'll finish Invasion generator to Free missions.
avatar
I don't really know, Colobot also does have this unique RTS element, that you build bases on planets, and develop them. I've been looking into games like that with no results. It's pretty rare to find game where bases are managed like in Colobot

NMS is definitely not first game to hoax, but no game did something like that to THAT scale. The biggest hype-releated drama I can think of side of NMS is actually Spore, and it's not like it's game build on lies, Maxis delivered game which can easily pull it's own weight even in negative light of it's past.
avatar
Also sorry for my english. I am just not accustomed to typing so long sentences on so specific topics in this language. Wink
avatar
Keep in mind we are comparing pretty much budget game form 2001 to game from 2008 from EA. Colobot could be more expanded in plot and some other elements like philosophy of alien territories and more logicial setting on planets, but I guess it could be improved in the future Smile
avatar
In tems of NMS I guess what they promised didn't come close to truth, but still many reviewers like this game (for example Remigiusz Maciaszek) and it's not first time (even bigger) developers coloring their game (Watch Dogs). Apart from this I still think that Colobot doesn't have single alternative. I am not going to argue that Spore is worse etc. I am just not into games like this, maybe they are better in some aspects, but they lack some close connection to space theme for me. It just gives you feel of completley other dimension whereas Colobot gameplay is more close to what I know is space exploration.
